Well, Grasshopper; It depends upon what you seek.
Want a game for any time you feel like, and leave clear evidence you kicked mucho asso?
...Stock up on the Paintballs.
Interested in a tactical military simulation? Airsoft is for you.
Airsoft is much different than paintball. The BBs don't travel as fast as paintballs and are less dense, hence the term air soft. One of the biggest issues between paintball and airsoft is the gameplay style. While both games are similar to each other, there are big differences. Each possess their own assets and liabilities... Airsoft:
In the United States airsoft is usually played in wooded areas with plenty of cover. Airsoft players don't wear bright orange jumpsuits - -They wear real military gear. It's not unusual to see someone wearing a ghille suit. On this type of airsoft field gameplay is slower placed and more tactical. Airsoft is more tense because you don't always know where the enemy is. Airsoft is generally cheaper to play than paintball because the ammo is much cheaper.
Quality paintball guns can cost hundreds more than airsoft guns, but they are about the same price for low to mid level guns. There is more safety gear required for paintball.
Pros
Cheaper to play Cleaner Less painful More play options
Cons
Judged on the honesty system BBs are not all biodegradable
Not as popular
Paintball:
Paintball is almost always played in rectangular "speedball" fields. These are generally low on cover and fast on the gameplay. Speedball fields require the use of lots of paintballs. This increases the paintball field's revenue and the paintball players cost. Paintball wasn't always played like this. In the 1980s when it was a much more underground sport it was played more like airsoft is widely played today.
Paintball is a messy game. Paint ends up everywhere. It should wash out of clothing and wash away when it rains, but depending on the surface it may not wash out.
The only mess airsoft makes is the ammo its self. There are biodegradable BBs that will dissolve in about 4 months, but many people choose the less expensive plastic BBs.
Paintball is much more popular than airsoft. There are teams virtually everywhere and many tournaments all over the country.
Airsoft has teams and tournaments as well, but it is not as big as paintball. One of the reasons for that is that when you get hit with a paintball, everyone can see it. When you're hit with an airsoft BB,
you're probably the only person that knows because there's no mark.
The person firing may not even know with certainty that they hit you. Because of this, there is more cheating involved with airsoft than with paintball. Pros
Paintballs show were the person was hit More popular Many accessories and upgrades available More realistic
Cons Expensive More Painful
Paintballs are Messy

Is it safe? The best way to avoid injury is to respect your airsoft gun.
An airsoft gun is not a toy. ...(Well actually, it's an expensive toy for big kids).
A few simple rules to keep in mind:
Never point your airsoft gun or shoot someone not wearing appropriate safety gear. Never shoot someone that doesn't know you're going to shoot them. Never shoot someone at point blank range. Don't shoot animals! They can't fire back, (ever see a squirrel with an airsoft rifle?) probably won't be wearing safety goggles ...And it's bad karma. These are just a few suggestions to keep your airsoft experience safe and enjoyable.
Are airsoft guns safe? Absolutely! It's fun and great exercise. So don't muck it up by being reckless.
Does it hurt? People often ask, "Does getting hit by an airsoft gun hurt?" Or more commonly, "Purposely getting shot with an airsoft rifle is one messed up hobby." The truth is, most of the time, airsoft gun "wounds" don't hurt. You'll feel it, but it's nothing like a paintball welt. While it should never break the skin, it sometimes leaves a bruise. Hey, that's the cost of doing business.
Wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt. But be careful your clothing's not too thick... You may not even know you're an airsoft gun casualty unless you hear it.
With an airsoft rifle in your hot little hands and some good-natured warfare - All fears vanish. As far as which is better, it all depends on the experience you're looking for. Want to keep it clean and not spend a lot of money? Airsoft is better.
Want the play to be more real and you have plenty of dough? Paintball might be what you're looking for. Either way, they're both loads of fun!
Always look for the cocky airsofter
